The Widetrack Chronicles 42: Still Here
Here we are... The closing track of our new album... :)
When this title popped in my head, I was inspired by how many ways there are to interpret the term...
-It could be a positive statement: "We've been though a lot, but we've endured... We're still here..."
-It could be a negative statement: "Ugh... I can't believe we're still here..."
It could be about finding a centered zone of tranquility in one's mind, despite there being chaos all around: "Here is where I find a stillness within my psyche..."
It can be taken geographically, metaphorically, literally, etc...
It can be taken as a song of hope, sung to a companion in recognition of the moment of NOW; the only thing any of us really has...
(Some thoughts I wrote down during the writing of this one):
"We believe that this new relationship, situation, etc., will change our worlds, even though we have not faced the truth about ourselves and what got us into the difficulties we've thus far experienced..."
"And so, when the new becomes not-so-new, we begin to hit that same wall again..."
"We're still here..."
"We're still who we have always been..."
"And so we shall continue to be, until we roll up our sleeves and do the work..."
"To resolve once and for all to make a new commitment to fixing ourselves..."
"We can't expect someone else to do it for us; it's up to each of us alone to fix ourselves..."
"No matter what our circumstances, we will remain who we are, wherever we are... If you are messed up and dysfunctional and in difficult surroundings, you will be messed up and dysfunctional in ideal surroundings as well... There is no escaping our deep rooted issues... We must confront them and resolve them..."
"Much like a person in recovery, we must want to change. We must be invested in changing. We must be committed to checking ourselves regularly and staying on top of our change."
"We are works in progress... The balance is, we can never just 'coast', feeling we've 'arrived'... We must be present in our relationships... Show up... Stick... Never quit trying..."
"The journey *is* the destination..."
Still Here
Been driving for so long, and yet
No sign of any place to rest
Horizon now farther still
Day by the month
Still there's no fix on when
One constant thought:
"Follow this..."
And all I have not yet said, love
Just know I won't quit
One road meant for
Two lives
Two fallen lives
Face down the storm
Hands on the wheel
Must stay the course
That's been revealed
While life remains
Hope exists
And all I have not yet said, love
Just know I won't quit
One road meant for
Two fallen lives
To hold this moment in time
Knowing we're still here
Now
