The Widetrack Chronicles 38: 2017 in Review
Ron from Widetrack here... Happy New Year! Hope yours was fantastic!
2017 was a pivotal year for us... Definitely our best yet!
Here's a timeline of our highlights...
JANUARY
Zach begins playing bass and joins the band!
This changed everything...
FEBRUARY
Basic tracking for the new album complete!
The basic tracks for the album have been recorded, and once again our trusty "Musical Handyman", Andy Patalan, begins mixing our new album...
MARCH
Zach's first show on my birthday at Brian's house!
What a blast this night was! Our first house concert... Zach did a great job! I opened the show with a short acoustic set featuring songs from the first two Widetrack albums, then Brian and Zach joined me for our first-ever performance of Widetrack III in its entirety...
We still had yet to find the right guy to play the drum parts I recorded for the album, so we ended up playing along with my recorded tracks...
A far cry from playing with a real drummer, but that problem would soon be fixed...
APRIL
Zach's first recording session!
Just two months into playing bass, Zach's abilities are already sharp enough to begin replacing my initial bass parts for the new album...
MAY
Ron and Zach begin "Influences", their weekly YouTube series!
Zach and I decide to geek out on our favorite bands each week... We plan on eventually getting into featuring lesser-known bands and musicians we love... More to come in 2018!
JUNE
Zach finally gets to see TOOL live in concert!
The anticipation for this one had been building up ever since Zach first got into them… As usual, they certainly didn’t disappoint!
JULY
We finally find our drummer!
The lineup is finally complete with the addition of 20 year-old Isaac Parsons! The youthful vitality of our rhythm section is a force to be reckoned with... Get ready!!! ;)
AUGUST
Ron and Brian get a high dose of inspiration from seeing Roger Waters live in concert!
Some good conversations about the kind of live show we'd like to present to the world followed seeing this show...
SEPTEMBER
Zach begins playing in The Vintage!
In just a few short months, Zach begins playing cover gigs with me at my "day job"... This will help immensely in terms of preparing him to tour with Widetrack when the time comes...
OCTOBER
Zach's first Queens Of The Stone Age concert!
Another one of our all-time favorite bands... Needless to say, we had a BLAST!
NOVEMBER
And another great concert... A Perfect Circle live in Detroit!
Due to the band's strict policy, these were the best photos I got of the night... Still, wow... what an AMAZING show!
DECEMBER
The new album is mixed and coming your way soon!
Between Andy's heavy recording/touring schedule and our various life responsibilities outside of Widetrack, getting the album mixed took most of 2017... but we hope that when you finally hear it (soon... I promise!), you will find that it was worth it! :)
Here's to looking at 2018 being the year we break out of the cocoon... Thanks for all your support as we embark upon this journey... The best is yet to come!
